AEx students.

During the years that have passed since the foundation of the school, many generations have passed through and graduated. Thinking of some of these students and wishing to know what they have done with their lives since then, we decided to find the students and ask them the question. True, they were students of the school but now they have decided to continue forming part of this great Lirima family.
We are proud to say that we have found some of them working in the school:

Degree/Profession: Bachelor of Education, English Teacher.
What motivated you to work in Lirima?
My main reason was to return to this excellent school which formed a very stable part of my formative years in junior school. I also wanted the opportunity to pass on to the students now, from my point of view as a professional, part of my legacy that is based on values and teaching that have been key to my higher education.
How has the experience been?
It has been very positive and my work has been well received. Sharing again with people who have been working many years in the school and even teachers who taught me and are now my co-workers is very gratifying. Another reason is that the school has given me ample opportunities to continue studying to learn more facets of the educational system, to specialize in other areas like Math, which is very satisfying as it gives me the chance to use new strategies in the classroom that will directly benefit the students of our school.
How has the school changed over these years?
The school has changed greatly over the last decade, initiated by the site change which was caused by the growth of the school academically and quantity of students. There actually exists a focus on satisfying the demand of a high level integrated bilingual education as fundamental tools today. However, it is possible to find the same charismatic atmosphere that was so characteristic of the school, which is generated by every classroom teacher and everybody who belongs to this establishment, and which creates the feeling that everyone is special.

What motivated you to work in Lirima?
From the time I knew I was returning to Iquique it was my wish to return to the school where I felt so welcome many years before and where I developed academically and personally.
The time that I spent as a student in Lirima shaped an unforgettable stage in my life for the imprints of the experiences that I lived in volleyball and baby football competitions, school anniversaries, coffee concerts, glass painting classes, school study trips, Pacific War route, and so many other experiences. All of these moments experienced, with my excellent classmates and teachers, are lifelong memories and friends that I will always be grateful to Lirima for.

How has the experience been?
Working as part of the school team has been an interesting experience  and difficult to become accustomed to the fact that the “Mr. and Misses” are now my co-workers .However knowing them in this light has made me appreciate and value their professionalism that as a student you are unable to catch a glimpse of. From the other side of the coin, I can say with accuracy that the teachers that we had and that are still in the school are wonderful people, who love what they do and have a deep commitment in the development of the children who pass through these classrooms.
I cannot fail to mention the people that I consider to be the soul of the school, and whose presence in the establishment, once more but as a member of staff, has made me feel that this is still my Lirima school from 1998 to 2000:          My beloved Miss Mirtha, the always amazing Miss Rocky, the affectionate  Miss Sarah, the great Mister Leo, the tremendous Juanito,  Verito, Olguita, Susana, and Don Luciano and my dear friends Neelu, Rose and Eva who continue to be wonderful people and professionals.
How has the school changed over these years?
The school has changed a lot since I was a student, starting with the site, which changed the climate of the school due to its size and number of students. Some traditions have also ceased to be as important as years before like the anniversary, family activities on mothers and father’s day among others. Despite this, I am delighted to see that the school continues to be as welcoming as before, with a diverse cultural wealth represented by the students that come here.
In synthesis, the changes that are inevitable over time have not been able to dim the spirit of the school.

 Degree/ Profession: Psychologist.
What motivated you to work in Lirima?
Firstly because of being an ex-student and working in a place that I knew and felt welcomed. Secondly, as it is considered one of the best schools in Iquique, the chance to develop and grow professionally in the place which gave me the fundamental structures of my education.
How has the experience been?
My experience has been very enjoyable and I feel very welcome by my co-workers. When you are a student, it is strange and nearly impossible to think that one day you will work with the same teachers who molded and educated you for so many years. Today I have more admiration and appreciation for all teachers who give me knowledge and tools to continue learning by.

How has the school changed over these years?

Well for me Lirima School will always be synonymous with a family atmosphere which I consider to be a good variable given that it maintains the vision of the school. However, I think that over time it has lost some of the customs like celebrating the anniversary on the correct date, holidays, family Christmas fair among others which provided opportunities to share with the family and give a different learning to the children that cannot be found in the classroom.

How was your experience in Lirima School?
I was in Lirima School for all of my senior classes, it was in Rancagua Street and it was a very small school with only one class per level.
I have always thought how lucky I was to pass this important stage of my life in this school.
In Iquique there were very few schools, Lirima was the most successful and I am not only referring to it academically. I always remember my years in Lirima as being one of the best times of my life, as it was a school that was so small our class was very close and we made sure it was so. We were the third generation to graduate and were a bit more rebellious than the ones before, but we were healthy, tried to respect other people and if we made a mistake we assumed our errors and if a classmate was guilty we all assumed responsibility…….wow if I told you the things we did I would never end.
Lirima affected my life and will do so for the rest of my life, most of my classmates are my best friends, we maintain contact, we meet when we can and the most important is that I married and have two children with the brother of a classmate who obviously is still my friend…..I can say that my family came from Lirima.
What was the reason for enrolling your child in Lirima?
There was no question that I would enroll Elisa in any other school than Lirima. Obviously the school has changed but I find that the spirit is the same; it gives me confidence and pride to know that in the future my daughter will say she, her mother and aunt went to the same school, like a family tradition. I can even say that Miss Monica was my class teacher for the last two years of school and now she does classes with Elisa. It is very emotional for me!!!!!    (it was quite hard for the Miss..hahaha)
What can you tell us about your experience of being a parent now?
I feel so old!!!! It is interesting to be on the other side of the coin, as a student you expecting things from the school that now as a parent are totally different.
My daughter is only in Pre-kinder, there is no pressure about grades which means it is very relaxed but I am preparing myself for what will come. In the mean time I participate in all the activities that I am asked to, I like to see her go to school and watch how she learns.

How was your experience in Lirima School?
My twelve years of education in the school were part of my life. My parents always knew it was the best bi-lingual school in Iquique and never doubted in giving me and my brother and sister the best gift in life.
The teachers still in school giving and dedicating education and love to the students, reflect that school every day I take and collect my 7 year old daughter Antonia. It is a great delight to see the school every day I go, because it reminds me of the times spent there with my classmates and teachers, everyone unforgettable. How can I forget Miss Rocky´s parties and each event we had like the hamburger making, fancy dress parties, the dances and the nicknames we gave to all of the students and the teachers, I was called “Poline Sailor”. The classes with Miss Mirtha which were the sweetest and most tender that I have ever had in my life. Mr. Leo and his computer classes where he taught us the most one could learn at that time were the best when we would fight for the computers. Mr. Antonio Bussenius and his sayings in his history classes which were never boring, because he loved his topic and made his classes interesting where we learnt a lot . How can I forget Mr.Table whose name was changed from Mr. Mesa.  Also the French classes with Miss Tina, where she taught us songs.  Many other teachers, headmasters, secretaries…..all those who make the school function in a clean, organized  way, great people who still work there like Luis, Juanito  among others.

What was the reason for enrolling your child in Lirima?
My main motivation was that both I and my siblings studied there and today we are all healthy happy professionals. The next important reason for me and my parents was that the school has always been bi-lingual and this is an amazing value in life. Also with the happiness that it created in me, it is a family school, affectionate with everyone, even when helping with the food contribution.
The school continues the same, continues to be a beautiful place full of teachers who educate with love and happiness, as students deserve, a family school where the values of respect, responsibility, solidarity and happiness are always ready to welcome everyone like a big family.

What can you tell us about your experience of being a parent now?
My experience as a parent has been beautiful and gratifying, it has rekindled memories now with my daughter, and in Antonia I see a reflection of myself as I was back then. Even the apron brings back memories! They still use the same books that I used; at times she brings home books from the library that I also rented. My parents tell me that the school was the same as it is now, a great school, with human values that made us the good professional people we are today.

I am always prepared to participate in the school activities because I feel part of it, and I thank my parents for giving me and my siblings the best bi-lingual education. I and my parents are very proud to be able to have my daughter Antonia, the second generation, in Lirima School

How was your experience in Lirima School?
My years in this school were full of pleasant surprises and very fulfilling experiences. It was where I met my lifelong friends even though I was only there from 8th to 12th grade. Not only giving me moments of happiness and friendship, I also lived many excellent educational and cultural moments like the Desert Experience and taking the First Certificate from the Cambridge University which allowed me to know other realities and improve myself. Apart from the gift of education, it also allowed me to develop the values necessary for adult life, and taught me to be conscious of the different realities that exist in the world and not just learn about them; it helped me to do something with respect to them like the weekly visits to Coanil. This school was my family for many years and I am proud to continue being a part of it, from a different perspective, with my offspring.
What was the reason for enrolling your child in Lirima?
The values instilled in this school and the quality of education along with the privilege of being bi-lingual was the main reason for me to enroll my daughter in Lirima School. I want her to live the same experiences that I did, but from a younger age so that it establishes in her these experiences and values to a greater degree. Thanks to what I lived in this school, I can say that I trust in the teachers and the system with total tranquility.

What can you tell us about your experience of being a parent now?
At this moment I am very happy to be a parent, as it has enabled me to take an active role in the education of my daughter and in this way help and accompany her in every stage of her life.
In my time this school was a small family and everyone knew each other, it still continues to be a family and continues to grant our children this closeness with their teachers and parents that is so necessary to create great human beings.
